Unprofitable Servants

‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.'”(Luke 17:10)

No matter what we do, we produce no profit for God. Our faith, our hope, and our charity are for our benefit not his. We don’t have rights to demand or expect anything from God in return for our actions. If we are obedient, however, he promises us grace, forgiveness, and eternal life.

As children who depend on their parents for their subsistence, we depend on God for ours. As a merciful parent, God never stops loving us because of our humanity. On the contrary, it is because of it that he sacrificed his only son. However, God does not force his love upon us; he wants us to choose him freely; that’s why he gave us free will. Of course, this means that like faithful and humble servants we are obliged to work for our compensation.

May God bless you! Happy Tuesday!
