Lenten Reflection #2: Mark 9:29

Listen to the most recent episode of my podcast:https://anchor.fm/simplediakonia/episodes/Lenten-Reflection-2-Mark-929-eqj2ot

And he said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer and fasting.” (Mark 9:29-RSVCE)

Reflection:

When the devil tempted Jesus in the desert, he probably expected Jesus to fall for his lies. Instead, Jesus cast him out not by force or power but by prayer and fasting. The result was the victory of life over death.

We, too, like Jesus, can use prayer and fasting to triumph over death. Prayer to call on the good spirits’ protection and fasting to free us from flesh’s temptations.

Today’s Intention

O Lord, this Lenten season, hear our prayers of need, sustain our fasting in temptation, and encourage us to persevere in our falls.

Peace and Goodness
