“Blessed are you that weep now, for you shall laugh.” (Luke 6:21)
On the 12th anniversary of 9/11, today’s scriptures remind us that there is strength in mourning. As with the waters of baptism, tears of mourning bury the old and raise the new.
Mourning helps us to “seek the things that are above” to “put to death…immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire.” and to “put on…compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience…forgiving each other…and over all these put on love, which binds everything together.” (Col 3: 1, 5, 12, 14)
As we mourn on this day, let us come together to reassure each other that Evil never has the final word, Christ does.
