“I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home.” To him Jesus said, “No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:61-62)
Jesus calls us to put God first and foremost. We must live in Christ if we want to join the kingdom of God. What this means is that as Christians, we must live a life that proclaims God in all we do today! For example, if we are married, husband and wife must put home, family, and each other first. If we are parents, we must own up to our responsibility as the main caregivers, mentors and educators of our children. Finally, if we are called to serve God through a vocation, we must do so with the utmost reverence and dedication to God.
We may not always succeed at following God as he intended, but if we leave everything behind, he will forgive us when we fall.
