“If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my home.” ~ Acts 16:15b
In today scriptures, Lydia, a small business woman from Thyatira, invites Paul to stay at her home after being baptized by him. Lydia was a worshiper of God, but she was not bound by the law and observances which would affirm her belief in God. After meeting Paul, however, “the Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what Paul was saying.”
Paul’s words moved Lydia to become baptized thus becoming bound to God through the Holy Spirit. As a sign of thanksgiving Lydia opened her home to Paul; but it was not just her physical home, it was also the home in her heart; a new dwelling place for God.
Lydia is a good example of the miracles that can take place in our lives when we open our hearts and invite God to stay in our homes. When we do so, we transform our faith from believing in God to living in Him thus having eternal life. Lydia understood that well when she met Paul; as a savvy business woman, she knew a good deal when she saw one and she took advantage of it.
