In honor of our upcoming 10th wedding anniversary, Hector and I renewed our vows at church. All married couples celebrating a significant anniversary were invited to attend. Over 60 couples participated! Anniversaries ranged from over 60 years to 1 year. In addition to exchanging vows, Msgr. Bill and Fr. Justin blessed our wedding rings and invited us to take communion as a couple. We received a certificate from the Diocese honoring our faithful witness to the Sacrament of Marriage.
It was definitely different exchanging vows this time around. For starters, our kids were bouncing all around us and we kept having to tell them to keep their hands to themselves, sit down, stop kicking, be quiet….etc, etc. I understand why it makes sense to get married first, then have kids. The other part thing is that after 10 years of marriage, you understand that the ceremony itself isn’t as important as the commitment. Still, it was inspiring to be surrounded by couples who had proceeded us by so many years in marriage and who remain united.
We know that all love comes from God, and so we give praise and thanks to God for being able to celebrate 10 years of marriage!
Here are the renewed wedding vows we took: On this day, I renew vows with you. For on our wedding day, as today, God was and is present. And so, I recommit myself to you. I will love you in the good times and in the bad. I will love you whether we are rich or we are poor. I will love you whether we are sick or healthy. I recommit myself to you before God and with God’s help, to live a life filled with love and kindness to you for the rest of our lives.
